PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I have a problem.  I'm extremely curious so I see some project and want to know how do you do that.  I go out and get supplies and practice and make similar items, but, then I have another problem.  I am very quickly bored so the hobby that fascinated me a month ago is no longer of much interest and I see something else that piques my interest and so it goes.

Photography isn't like that.  There are so many styles of photography and so many subjects to photograph and then so many ways to process the results.  In the past month or so I've taken photos at the beach, on a river, on a ferris wheel, in a museum, in my yard, at a friend's home, at a park, and in a mall parking lot.  My subjects have included landscapes, performers, portraits, flowers, cats, dogs, water, signs, bridges, flags, boats, sunsets, machinery, plants and even a few birds.  And while most are in my computer waiting for processing, some have been edited, cropped, changed to monochrome, had colors enhanced, and one was even processed to look like an oil painting.  It's hard to imagine running out of things to do in photography.  I urge you to go out and take photos of whatever catches your eye.  Pick your favorites and share them with us at a photo review, on Zenfolio and Facebook.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the 4th of July Celebration, we had a great turnout and got some amazing fireworks photos to end the evening.  And be sure to check out all of our photos in the Event Gallery on Zenfolio.

JULY FIELD TRIP  -  "WHAT IS IT?"

 WHAT IS IT?

When: Anytime before July 17

Where: Anywhere

Take a break from the heat and organize your own field trip around your home, your work or anyplace you happen to go before our July Photo Review.  Your mission is to find common, everyday objects and photograph them in a way that it isn't quite so easy to figure out just what that item is.  You might take a photo of a gadget that no-one knows what it is or zoom in for a detail shot to try and disguise something we would all recognize if we saw the whole item.  For inspiration you might want to check out the Zenfolio galleries from 2016 2014 or 2013 for some inspiration.  There will be a gallery on Zenfolio in case you want to post some of your shots in advance and all of the photos shown at the review will be added after the meeting.  At our meeting we will have an informal competition to see who can best figure out "What Is It."

GENERAL MEETING - JULY 17

PHOTO REVIEW - 'WHAT IS IT'

MONDAY, July 17, 2017

 7pm - 9pm

Our photo review is a little different this month due to our "What Is It" challenge. For those pictures you aren't limited to the typical 5-7 photos.  Bring as many as you like to try and stump the other members.  Don't forget there will be a prize for the best photo detective.

After we finish the competition, we will do a regular photo review.  We'd love to see your photos especially if you took any from our photo challenges.  But anything is fair game for this portion of the meeting.  Warning if you bring more than 5 regular review photos only the first 5 will be copied over to show.

Bring your photos on a thumb drive.  Put the "What Is It" photos in one folder and the general review photos in a separate folder.  It is very helpful if you use the date of the meeting "JULY 17" in naming the folders so we can be sure to show the right ones.

CITY HALL GALLERY ENTRIES
THEME - OVIEDO ABSTRACTS
The theme for the next round of photos for the City Hall Gallery is Oviedo Abstracts and the deadline for submissions is July 19, 2017You may submit up to five photos taken of any subject in Oviedo.  They must have been taken since July 19, 2015.  We will be choosing five new photos for City Hall. The five oldest photos in City Hall will be moved to the Annex building to replace five of the photos currently there.

The submissions will be handled via Dropbox.  Please email the club that you wish to participate and you will be provided a link to a dropbox folder for your photos.  Do not create a Dropbox folder yourself to submit photos.  All files submitted should be suitable for printing a 16 x 20 print.  You will only be able to see your photos, you will not be able to see the other submissions until after the submission deadline.  All submitted photos will be renamed to be anonymous and submitted to our curator for the selection process.  You will receive a confirmation email after the photos are renamed and submitted so you can verify they have all been provided to the curator.  Once the selection process is completed all submissions will be placed into a nonpublic folder for everyone to see.  If your photograph is chosen there will be a $50.00 charge for printing and framing your photograph.  All photos will be printed by the club for a consistent appearance.

Each  of the fireworks in the photo composite above is by a different member. From left to right they were taken by Rich, Mira (Erin's daughter-she's not in the picture), JoeChristine, Susan, and Paula.

4th of JULY PHOTOS

JULY PHOTO CHALLENGES
Our subjects for July are:

Phone photo - Look for something that starts with O.  It could be anything, a color, an object, a pet name Obie, a person named Oscar?  You choose.  If you like the challenge, repeat it with a different letter when you run out of things to shoot.

Macro - It's getting hot outside so for this challenge stay where you are and look around you.  What do you see? What is within your reach that would make an interesting macro or close-up photograph?  If your desk is as messy as mine, there will be a lot of subjects close at hand.

General - It's almost time for fireworks so that's the general challenge for July - fireworks.  If you didn't make it to the celebration on the 4th, maybe you have some from a previous year or a theme park to bring.

Composition - repetition can bring interest to your photos, whether it be a series of lines, rivets in a piece of metal or a group of similar objects.  Repetition is seeing a pattern and patterns catch our attention.  But you could also choose to break the rule and take a photo of a single object.  Should you be a rule bender or rule follower or does it depend on what you're trying to convey in your photo?

As always the challenges are just meant to get you thinking about taking photos when you think there isn't anything to photograph.

Whatever you choose to photograph please share some of the results with us at one of our photo reviews.
